What was the highlight of ONSEN RYOKAN YUEN SHINJUKU
Quiet hotel with a fantastic rooftop onsen in the middle of the city!
Tucked away in a quiet location, despite being just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku. A wonderful rooftop onsen with beautiful views of the city skyline. The onsen also allows entrance to those with tattoos. Cozy and comfortable rooms with all the required amenities, possibly a bit larger than the average room in Tokyo. Great customer service and a lovely traditional breakfast experience.
Can be cleaner (rooms a bit dusty-reading other reviews suggest that it’s an issue with the ventilation vents?) Hotel staff should be a bit more strict about how guests clean themselves prior to using the onsen. The location may not be ideal for folks who want quick access to Shinjuku station.

What was the highlight of ONSEN RYOKAN YUEN SHINJUKU
Overall the experience was fine but compared to the experience on other hotels in Japan was mediocre
The hotel has a nice asthenic and ambiance, when it's not full. The onsen is nice and relaxing when it's not full. There is a really nice food spread at 10 pm with free sake and local things to try that was a nice touch
Cleaning was really strange in this hotel, you could tell it was done only at the surface. If you looked a little harder you saw dust under the bed and behind things. The beds were made when we were there but dirty tea cups were left as they were and weren't replaced, we left a bag of trash by the trash and only the trash can was replaced but the bag wasn't thrown out causing the already small room to feel dirty. The onsen changing room was also a little dirty, not sure if this is because there were many foreigners which just aren't as clean as the japanese or because the staff doesn't visit enough to clean. The staff was subpar, most of them weren't very nice, didn't speak English well and didn't know how to answer basic questions like how much was a taxi to the airport The hotel was really full and the "lounge" outside the onsen was always packed with loud groups Overall the experience was fine but compared to the service and experience on other hotels in Japan it didn't really feel like it was in the standard of the country

We had a lovely stay overall at Onsen Ryokan Yuen.
Staff were very friendly and the room was clean and had everything we needed. Loved the idea reusable water bottle with water station on our floor. Location was also great with a short walk to Shinjuku station
Room was slightly on the small side so no room to open up large suitcase
